A Day out to Fuckery: Art

Fuck You. Let me just say this before we start. You could say it was my manifesto. I’m a little sick of self-indulgent cocks with no humility that dash around showing off their ignorance or lack of imagination.
Ok, I’m a lot sick of it.
Nowhere is this more evident than in the world of Art. But for the purposes of us being gathered here today, I’m going to talk about the Art Gallery of NSW.
I went to this facility naught but two days ago. I paid a little visit to the Archibald prize to see the competition and gauge if art had progressed at all in the last 20 years. Apparently not.

Now, I’m a fan of Art. I enjoy looking at it. I enjoy analysing the good ones. And I even enjoy the taste of it. But what I can’t stand is pretentious artists who take what they’ve got too lightly. They act as though they’re Picasso. From their artist’s statements next to the portraits at the Archibald, you’d think they invented the photo-realism or Pop Art.
But not a single work at the gallery this year made me think some thought had gone into its creation. Just by the numbers tosh.
Now, there’s nothing wrong with sucking. I suck at Art quite frequently, if not most of the time. But it’s when you suck and can’t admit it that I feel personally offended.

This is made that much worse by the audience. There seems to be some unspoken bond between artist and art patron to be the most pretentious fucking pricks they could be. Just the wankery and self-importance of those fuckers looking at the art and acting like they’re better than you. The fucking cheek to scowl at me as I walk around.
Now I like to walk around art galleries listening to my Mp3 player. I find it makes the experience much more personal and I can enjoy the pictures with the tiniest bit of privacy.
I never have it up loud, cause I know how annoying that can be. But fuck me; you’d think I’d raped their daughter with some of the looks I got.
Art is never going to be for the people unless somebody deals with these rich self-important elitists who feel the need to segregate everybody who doesn’t look like a live prune.
I even heard one thin-haired old fuck loudly trying to explain a painting of a skull using popular consumer items like phone and such by proclaiming that it was a skull so it was about death. Then he looked around as if to dare anybody to add something. I almost pounced on him.

Something needs to change in art. A few years back I was under the impression that graffiti and other forms of street art were going to become the new purely artistic medium of expression. But that never really took off, plus Banksy sold out and started painting elephants and getting rich.
So there needs to be a change. There’s an urgent requirement for a revolution. Not just in art. In culture, enough of the vapid cool kids where the guys dress like girls and the girls dress like bitches that are dumber than a slab of cheese. Usually they are.
We need a new Punk. Not like punk though, because that already got popularised. There needs to be something pure before it becomes cool.
A more fuck you attitude is the beginning I think. There’s so much wrong with the world and people just sit around not even talking about it. Or they print it on t-shirts to seem intelligent. But fuck me. This has got to stop. The championing of Stupidity. It’s not a good thing being dumb. It’s embarrassing, and more people need to learn that.
There needs to be more hate. We need more mindless vandalism of things that make us angry. Because if it’s that stupid and it makes us that angry, it’s probably broken.

Fuck you Art. You let me down.

Art has been letting people down for as long as I can remember. Admittedly, my memory doesn't go back that far but still, i doubt it's a new phenomenon.

I've been to lots of Art galleries, and heck, maybe this is just a sign of how stupid I am but; I have always found the most enjoyable way to view Art is by flipping through the posters in the gift shop. Plus, there's always some really cool little oddities and trinkets for sale that you just don't stumble upon anywhere else.

Fuck you!
